Just wanted to share this one with everyone.
I don't know alot about the old copper coins, but, with the precious metal prices on the rise, and the prices being asked for silver dollars today, I decided it might be a good time to venture into another area.
Given the condition of the coin, I'm assuming it was underground for a number of years, and I recall something I read sometime back about passing on dug coins, but, given the date, and the history, I decided to get it anyway - only the second year the U.S. Mint was in operation.

I know what you mean. When a US coin begins with "17" it's hard to pass on it given the history. I regret trading my 1794 that was in rough shape although I did upgrade to a sweet 1802 VF. Still looking for a nice replacement on the 1794. Yours appears to have the same die crack at the "E" so I think it's Sheldon 49. If the two leaves at the top touch and close the wreath on the reverse, then S49 it is. Nice coin!

Here's the one I traded as a reference.

Interesting....those too look like the EXACT same coin! Look at the placement of the verdigris on the obverse, and rim bump on the reverse. Is that not the same coin?

Johnny54321- Didn't notice the rim bump until you pointed it out. With all these similar identifiers, it would be a heck of a coincidence if it isn't.

Ralph- I traded/sold mine to Shawn Yancey a few months ago. Where did you obtain yours?

Picked it up on ebay - shipped from Richland, Washington - think it might be the one you traded?
As Johnny pointed out, they are quite similar in appearance.....

That is definitely the same coin. Same rim damage on the reverse in the same place. Two spots of verdigris on her hair in exactly the same place. She also has a "dimple" of sorts where a pit mark formed on her cheek near her lips. Exact same wear all over the coin too.
