I came across this penny in my coin dish and it struck me as odd. I found another one to compare to and cant figure out why a reg penny is very brassy colored and this one I have is reddish and purplish in color.
I dont think its been heated up or chemically treated.
Any help or ideas please..

Pictures below.
Thanks for the help!

to CCF. It looks like normal toning and very nice at that.I prefer it to the one with the finger print on it.

Thanks for the post and welcome! :)
Was hoping it was an anomaly but its ok...
I have some other coins that are indeed anomalies I will want to post and see what you all think they are worth. Sadly, after many years I am forced to sell many of these off...

Welcome..copper comes in so many variations, it makes for some really interesting tones, even on brand-new coinage..it's one of the reason I collect cents..keep hunting, and you'll find some of the so-called "brass-plated" cents from the 80's...they stickout like a sore thumb...check Ken Potter's site for pics..http://koinpro.tripod.com/
Good luck.

This coin sat in the heat for a while, probably on something with sulfur in it. That will make them tone quickly and rather unnaturally.
