USPS emailed about 4fr fat rat boxes. Just consider it a long-term loan at no interest.

fredd, I'm having trouble deciphering what your message means, but I will add, postage won't be worth anything when they go out of business next year.

Kidding of course. No government agency goes out of buisness. They just change their name and collect more taxes to make it work.

I couldn't fully decipher the secret message, but I got enough of it to track it down. The answer: Prepaid Forever Priority Mail Flat Rate⢠Packaging. You can now lock in the price of a flat rate box/envelope forever (or until the postal service ceases to exist). http://uspsstore.stamps.com/Store/c...questid=3585

What? No discount for bulk orders? Small flat rate boxes are $5.20, whether you buy one or more.

It's still a great deal considering the inclusion of free delivery confirmation plus the likelihood of significant price increases on these flat-raters in the not too distant future. Yeah, the death notices for the Postal Service are a bit premature, but something has to be done to make it a viable operation financially. Guys like me who routinely ship 50+ pounds in those large FRB's are effectively being subsidized by the P.O. and are -never- going to have access to a cheaper alternative.

The problem with prepaid boxes is all the stuff that can happen to them long term. It's like having a few dozen $5+10 bills that require the space of a filing cabinet to store.

That's exactly what the post office is hoping happens... you forget to use them or they accidentally get ruined or thrown out... its the same with businesses that have gift cards... they know not all of that money will be used, so it's a no brainer for them to offer them.
