Actually it's not any actual grade
Coins do not wear uniformly nor in discrete amounts
Grading is ALWAYS an opinion

agreed over all grading is an opinion.... but for many many years there have been accepted (industry standards if you will) markers for coins which are well described in various books. These markers can give you a very good indication of the actual grade with opinion playing a part. This particular coins carries enough of the markers for a coin carrying the F-12 grade so I would actually grade it as such. All coins carry a grade of one level or another that is how value/worth is calculated along with oh yeah another industry accepted standard Trends....Many people are not well informed and often are taken by sellers who are not very honest so they ask on this forum for opinions on a coin and with the various opinions offered they learn how to grade and make better informed choices thus enjoying the hobby much more..

I too would grade this coin as F12, but it's just an opinion

Many thanks to everyone for the replies. I now have this coin in my Gardmaster Canada 50c album, sitting in the 1904 slot. I know I can't afford the '04 Canadian issue, so this Newfie will do very nicely.

When I first saw it on ebay I almost convinced myself it was VF, but upon further examination I could see more wear on the crown, the beard, the hair, etc. Still loved it!
