I have what appears to be a BU 1942 Newfoundland 5 cent coin. I understand that they are .925 It looks to be mint marked C with a bar over it. The C looks to be doubled. From the little bit of research I have done, it looks like mintage was under 30k. Which seemed to be very low for a 5 cent coin.

The coin shows no wear under 20X magnification and only has some very fine contact marks. Unfortunately, one of the very light contact marks is on the cheek. Which, I am guessing is a key area.

The coin seems so fragile that I was surprised to find such a good example.

Can some one shed some more light on this coin?

According to Charlton the mintage for the 1942 5 cent is 298,348. The only other 5 cent george that comes close to the 30k mintage is the 1947 at 38,400. If it's a nice MS example it's worth around 30 bucks. They aren't doing very well on ebay lately I've noticed.
As far as I'm aware there haven't been any doubled "C" varieties noted anywhere so I'm curious to see it. I have a few examples of this coin in MS and I can't find anything like that. There are 3 varieties for this date that I know of... none command a premium, as not a lot of people know about them.

"not a lot of people know about them" you can count me in that crowd.

I have to get the cars out of the rain and into storage. I do not want to have to wash and dry them. I also have tooth that was removed on Friday and now I have dry socket. I have been eating Oxycontin 30s like tic-tacks and chasing them with 10mg Vicodin, 10mg Valium and if I had some Crown that would be the next step or the .357. Maybe not the .357, this maybe a job for the .40 SW or .45 IT HURTS!

You guys are probably right that it is a common. I was getting a little excited. I will have to get the tripod and hotfoot out for this little coin and mint mark. I looked at the "C" some more and sure looks to be doubled. But, it could be smeared over also. I am going to have to look hard at it.
