I can see how this played out.
Guy has a nice coin collection.
Wife says there's a kid on the way and he needs to sell them.
Guy says, fine I'll put them on CL, but makes the listing as vague as possible.
Coins don't sell.
Guy to wife...well I've tried selling them several times, but no one is buying.

Granted, the guy doesn't say much about what coins specificall are in the collection other than a few silvers, but I could go to my local coin dealer today and pick up 100 foreign coins from 45 different countries (not Canada or the US) for about $20. Add a few silvers and it's probably still less than $50.

Can we make a thread of craigslist blunders I just had one this weekend
Basically the guy said he was going to sell to a collector and doesn't care if he gets full value as long as the coins go to a good home. After a few emails and a phone call he was really pleased with who I seemed to be, someone not trying to rip him off. I asked for a list of the coins and prices he wanted and he gave me this
1898 Morgan silver dollar (Good Condition) $50.00
1903 Liberty nickel (Fair-Good Condition) $10.00
1909 Liberty nickel (Good Condition) $10.00
1908 Barber Silver Quarter D Series (Good Condition) $20.00
1916 Buffao Nickel (Fair Condition) $05.00
1937 Buffalo nickel D Series (Good Condition) $10.00
1926 Buffalo nickel (Good Condition) $02.00
1928 Buffalo nickel (Good Condition) $02.00
1935 Buffalo nickel (Good Condition) $02.00
1936 Buffalo nickel (Good Condition) $02.00
1936 Buffalo nickel (Good Condition) $02.00
1936 Buffalo nickel (Good Condition) $02.00
1937 Buffalo nickel (Good Condition) $02.00
1941 Mercury Head Dime (Good Condition) $05.00
1944 Mercury Head Dime (Good Condition) $05.00
Needless to say I gave him a long email explaining values of coins, what he should expect to get them for and all that. The guy sent me back another email apologizing to me and thanking me for being honest, helping and caring. He then told me to make him an offer I thought was fair and I could have the coins. I think I am just going to walk. But at least the guy read my entire email and seems to have learned something!

Well, I ended up buying this set. Turned out to be a ziplock baggie full of Italian and Irish circulated coinage from the eighties.

No complaining here! LOL

Also consider googoo, that he is probably not talking about a Sheldon scale good. Most people off the street would probably not consider a G4 grade to be good, but rather a VF or higher.

Hey there

I'm interested in the coins but $400 seems a bit steep unless they are All very rare. Most generic world coins are 10 cents to 25 cents...not $40 a piece.

Since it's only 100 coins can you at least itemize the best 10 coins in there? Pictures would also be great if possible.

Useful advice, if on deaf ears. Some people don't realize how plentiful are pre-euro coins after, say 1950--where most have little value over scrap. $400 would make sense only if there were 100 pre-1900 @ VF or better.
