My three favorite coins are the Standing Liberty quarter, the Trade dollar, and the Mercury dime.

I recently got back into coin collecting since I gave it up back in middle school only to discover that I only owned 2 Standing Liberty quarters, 3 Mercury dimes, and an 1874S Trade dollar with chop marks (I wanted one with chop marks) that I saved up for quite a while to buy back in 1990.

A year or 2 ago while shopping on ebay I came across someone selling a short set of Standing Liberty quarters 1925-1930 which also included a 1927D and S and a 1917P and S Type 1 for a god price (silver was cheap back then)

I would get the set out once a month or so and think about getting back into coin collecting but never did.

3 months ago, after spending every dollar I made for the last 16 months paying off my houses and the Home Depot credit card bill for building supplies to fix up said houses, I told myself "what good is working everyday and making money if you don't buy yourself something nice every once in a while" so I started picking up some Standing Liberty quarters on ebay trying to complete the set I bought earlier.

Well it turned out that buying bulk lots of quarters nets you duplicates. So I had to pick up another album to put the duplicates in. Then with more purchases came more duplicates and more albums. Before I knew it I was trying to build 5 sets.

I also ending up searching out the low mintage 1927D and 1927S quarters. So far I am up to 43 1927S and 25 1927D quarters.

Anywho, back to the almost deal of the day. I saw this lot listed on ebay. At first pass looking I said "if it goes for less than melt it might be a good deal." Second pass later on I said "I will need a Barber quarter for my 2nd type set album." Third pass I looked a little closer and said "The Standing quarter looks like the last digit is visible and I need that one for my 5th string album." Fourth pass I said "Wait! There's a mintmark on that Standing quarter. If it is what I think it is I need that one to fill the hole in my first string album" so I took a chance and if it hadn't been for one meddling bidder I would have gotten the lot of them for below melt.

The coins came today and the Standing quarter was what I had hoped it was and it was almost the deal of the year for me but it still turned out to be an OK deal and filled the hole in my album.

Only 5 more holes to fill (2 somewhat affordable)

Can anyone spot the deal (original ebay sellers photo)?

It ended up being a 1919D.

Nice pickup on the gold if it turns out to be genuine.

I get evil looks whenever spending President or Sacagewia dollars and the "is this real?" so I'm surprised that your bank even took that one in.
