Yeah I sometimes put my rings in the gun safe rather than wear them. Its kind of like having 4 or 5 hundred dollar bills in your hand walking down the street for anyone to see. Even with a CCW license why invite trouble?

I have a gold Breitling watch and I only wear it with long sleeves. In a bad neighborhood gold could get you killed.

Well, that's kinda depressing! I have a small gold wedding ring, pretty much all my bling. Guess I better keep my left hand in my pocket when I'm out, but I do need to look at my Timex occasionally. A Breitling, wow, I see the ads for those in an aviation magazine I get; that's a big watch!

No, I love it, and I will not hide out of fear. That being said I will tuck it in if the situation merits it. Sport this when I can. Nice watch Junior

It's funny because womens' wedding/engagement rings are generally far more valuable then plain gold jewelry and you rarely, if ever hear of issues with women wearing those rings.

That's probably because you don't see as many ads to buy old used diamonds. These thugs want stuff easy to sell.

One reason why I love my wedding band is that it is white gold..doesn't attract the eye too much :)

Quote: In a bad neighborhood gold could get you killed. Yes, it could... but then, so could certain kinds of jackets and shoes. Best to avoid such neighborhoods and the hoods who are there. Not too worried. Avoid the neighborhood and not avoid show off (modestly). Though having been a watch fanatic for a while before getting into physical PM, I could be sporting a fortune on my wrist that the average joe wouldn't give a second glance to. Quote: As a coin collector, I feel compelled to say, "That poor coin :(" At the very least no holes where put through the coin itself! (I've seen a couple of those that makes me cringe)

- I heard of one case in India (recent, summer 2011) where a woman was robbed of her gold earrings, and her ears were ripped off to expediate the robber's escape. There are also house burglars who work naked and oil themselves up to avoid getting caught.
- Aren't diamonds hard to fence? They are certified and tightly controlled. The money is in the metal, I would guess, because the diamonds would be reported stolen, so thieves would unset the stone and only profit from the melting of the rest of the ring. No need to go dabbling in diamonds.
