startabe:

I have recently become interested in collecting foreign coins. I kept finding foreign coins in US coin rolls. I got about 50 of them, from roll hunting, then decided to just buy a 5 lb. bag of foreign coins off ebay. I bought two 5lb bags, so now have about 1000 coins total - from about 80 different countries. About half of them are duplicates. (still sorting them)

Once I get 250 posts in, I am going to start a thread to try to swap some of my duplicates with other forum members. Should be in late October, or November.

Best,

LastGold

A few duplicate proof sets from some years, not exactly sure how that happened, Xmas gifts maybe. Their value is pretty low these days, so I guess I would call them 'spare'.

I am not big into foreign coins, but I have maybe 30-40 of them, as far as I know, none are doubles.

I buy foreign lots at auction frequently. Am loaded with duplication, but most of it is fairly common. It would be nice to have a swap thread for this stuff..

I sold a lot of my spares recently to fund a few purchases I wanted to make. I probably have about 500 duplicates / tokens which I don't collect / spares lying around. That against my coin collection of about 7,000 items - though there are certain areas I have concentrated on.

And don't get me started on banknotes ........ :)

What is a spare coin? I really don't have any SPARE COINS. Not exactly sure what a SPARE coin is.
I do have lots of foreign coins in 2x2's and in those Whtiman Red Boxes. Not sure what they are though. I get some and put them in a 2x2 and there they stay. Most I have no idea what they are, where they are from or anything about them. Not sure why they all don't use English on their coins so people like me would know what they are.
I have no SPARE US coins either. As soon as an Album gets full, I start another one of the same thing. Well over 100 of those Albums and more soon to be started.
I think of a spare coin as if it was a spare tire for a car. Something you don't see, not sure it's really there, not sure you'll ever need or want it and when you finally do, it's flat.
Rest in Peace

It's the one you put in the album hole when the original gets a flat.
