I recently stopped my grandpa's to check out some of his coins. I left with 3 coffee cans of wheaties, and a small can of IH. He asked me if I could go through them for him, because they have never been searched. I told him it might take me awhile but I would be happy to.

So now I have the task of learning as much as I can about Lincolns. I went to coppercoins web-site and the ammount of information there on Lincolns is a little overwhelming.

It looks like my Grandpa took the wheaties out of circulation in the early 60s and put them in rolls. At first glance the coins look in real good shape. Alot of them were RB with alot of original luster.

I searched 2 rolls last night and found mostly 40s and 50s some 30s a few 20s and 3 or 4 teens. Should be a pretty entertaining endeavor.

Oh I did find a 1931 that had no reverse(plain planchet) not sure what signifigance it has if any?

Can anyone suggest a good Lincoln book? I need to do some homework.

Thanks in advance.

there is a member here that goes by the nick of Metalman and he collects Lincoln cents, and then there is coppercoins himself (that runs coppercoins.com) so any book either of them suggests would be a good start for you. I wish I had an answer for you but I have no clue if there is even a book that's only about lincoln cents or just wheaties but I am sure either of them would know

One of my guides for Mr. Lincoln is "The Standard Guide to the Lincoln Cent" by Dr. Sol Taylor. It's a pretty simple book and gives short but, informative information for each year. I'm sure there are others and yes, Metalman is our forums Lincoln "guru".

I actually have coppercoins' guide to lincolns. Not sure of the exact title, but I think it's just about everything you need to know...lolol. I honestly have yet to look through it with all of my old copper, but that will happen soon enough.

Sounds like a very fun project. Hope you find a 1955 double die or a 1909 S VDB....that would be so cool. Happy hunting.
