I bought this supposed 1853 arrows dime off ebay; pics were a little dark and not much detail showed in them but I had suspected a high grade coin. I lucked out...it turned out to be uncirculated. Splotchy darkish toning on the obverse, but deep rainbow reverse. Maybe MS-62 to 63. I put it away in my album for later sale. I had paid maybe $40-50 tops for it, I don't remember. It was at least six months ago.

Fast forward 6+ months, I'm looking at this coin and I go WAIT A MINUTE...

I look closer

NO ARROWS!

And this means its likely to go for really premium money, since this coin is well struck and as far as I know (I could be wrong) the no arrows 1853's are usually abysmally struck.

I looked under a loupe and saw no evidence of tampering where the arrows would be, so I'm just hoping earnestly that it doesn't end up being an 'arrows removed' coin by some bizarre chance.

Do you think maybe numismedia has this one undervalued? Or are the ebay dealers just overcharging?

Congratulations! Poor quality pictures and a seller who obviously didn't know what he had sure can turn into a great deal!

at first glance that ebay coin looks altered to me too....but how'd it get into a pcgs holder? The holder doesn't look fake to me........but you never know. I can't see an altered coin being officially slabbed by PCGS.
