I am new to this forum. I have a $5.00 error bill dated 1981 that has the print only on the face side. I do not know very much about errors so I would like to know what this is called and the possible value. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Welcome! Please post a quality pic or a scan of both sides of your note. No one can tell much about it without pics. If genuine, it might be worth somewhere in the three figure range.

"blank back", missing first print. If genuine, I believe somewhere in the $300 - $600 range. Nice one! . How'd you come across it?

I agree with the $300 - $600 range. I would get it graded/authenticated. Nice note to have though.

Thank for the quick response. It was in a stack of new bills back in 1981. Have had it since.

Okay, if this bill didn't get printed on one side, does that mean that the rest of the bills from that sheet will also be blank on one side? That is if they still exist.

When I first saw this that was my thought too. If legit, there would have to be another 31 just like it. I think it's impossible for just one on the sheet to not get inked. It would still be a surprising find!

Nice find if legit. Not to be the debbie downer as they say but you may want to do a advanced search on ebay for error notes like yours. Most notes like yours are selling for less then $200.00. But like they say the note is worth what someone is willing to pay. I have several error notes and it may be wise to hold onto it for awhile and maybe the price may increase, as error notes don't seem to be selling to well right now. Either way good luck with it.

There may be 31 others, but only if the sheet stuck and didn't get ink. Another possibility is that a smaller sheet of paper, say a 8.5x11, landed on the press. In that case, only the notes covered by that sheet would be blank. Or a folded sheet woud give partial blanks.

There are more. We have a $5.00 bill printed on one side only, the back side is white, no ink. Got it from our local bank in change. Took it to the Sac. Treasury Dept., they said to keep it in a very safe place, and that is where it remains.
