One thing I like about IHC varieties is they're often major--no loupe is really needed! All these coins I found at shows for $1 to $5. After all these years, they're still out there to be found.

1882 Snow-2 dated with a broken punch:

1894/1894 Snow-1--two different coins

Thanks! Cleaned--which coin? All the coins have the expected level of crud in the devices.
When I shot these, not all the pics were calibrated for color. In any case, I'm happy with these finds.

Nice finds. I love how many retained die cracks I can find on the copper nickel cents at shows too. The 1897 is awesome, as most dealers know to look for that one.

Nice assortment. I'm working on my IHC collection too. I need quite a few from the 60's & 70's.

Yeah, the '60-70s are all hard to find problem-free--probably because of the melting/recoining that began in 1871.

okiepb, are you looking for all the Indian cents with errors/varieties?

late 60's and 70's are very hard to find problem free. I read somewhere that the mint changes suppliers at that time and that the coins subsequently made did not prove to be as good as the last supplier.

Did the mint change suppliers for cent planchets? That might explain some of the strange toning in the 1870s.
A lot was going on in the 1870s that impacted the mint--post civil war, economic turmoil, problems with dies--hardness problems, widespread cracking/short die life (shortage of good tool steel?), and of course the remelting fiasco.

DVCollector, Yes, I read somewhere that the mint changed supplies for cent planchets. However, for the life of me, I could not find that reference the other day when I made my post. =/

1887 Snow-1 DDO

If someone found a 2011 coin with doubling like that wouldn't they be told MD?

It's harder to make out the diagnostics of the DDO in lower grades, but they are there.
This higher grade coin is easier, especially in the "E" and "C" of AMERICA

Nice stuff ... I think they ought to call the 1897 the "Bolivian Necktie".The DDO is definitely hub doubling.

I dug out my Cherrypicker's guide to Liberty nickels the other day, and the section on Doubled dies should be required reading. Folks don't know there are several classes of doubling aside from classic "hub doubling".

I just picked up my third 1882 snow-2. I've Cherrypicked each one. Any clue on an estimated population on these?
