Please take a look at this date of my Shield nickel.

Does this appear to be an 8 over 9, a 9 over 8, or something totally different?

Depending upon your opinion please tell me where I could go to get an idea of this coin's rarity and corresponding resale value.

looks like corrosion compromised the 8 into imaginable other images.

we'd need to see the entire nickel, front and back, to grade and evaluate it properly.

To me, it appears to be an 1869 in AG to G condition (with corrosion). I'd guess worth anywhere between 10 and 15 dollars. My limited-educated guess.

I spent about 10 minutes researching the existence of an over-date for the coin and found nothing.

It is an 1869 with heavy corrosion damage.
