Well,

I read those stories of mysterious coin collectors dropping expensive coins in the salvation army bucket. Since I only started collecting this year. I thought I would take part in the tradition.

Well today I dropped a 2006 proof silver eagle in the bucket. It felt really good; I almost talked myself out of it and was going to drop a couple of dollars instead, but I did it. It wasn't an expensive coin but I think I would do it again next year.

Has anyone else given coins (not change in your pocket) to the salvation army yet?

That was a wonderful thing to do. It speaks volumes about your giving spirit. I have yet to make such a gift, but, like Becky, I pass a bucket every day on my way from work and leave something every time. There is no way my small donations bring as much happiness to their hearts as it does mine.

That was very nice of you, I try to drop some change every pass. Last year I volunteered to ring the bell and attend te kettle. I also helped give out gifts at a local salvation army. those two days I felt such a great feeling. I think these acts of true kindness is what this season is all about. I thank all who gives what they can. Any donation does help.
God bless and happy holidays

Theres a person here that puts a gold coin in the bucket every year.If fact he just did it again over the weekend. He puts the coin in an airtite first so it dosn't get washes with and banged up by the other coins. I know who he is.Hes a local coin shop owner and he's known for giving generously all year long.
I drop whatever change I have everytime I go past one of the lil red buckets.

That was great. I thought about doing that myself, every year at the same location, but I haven't yet. I think you may have inspired me to do the same.

The Salvation Army is a good organization and one of the few that I donate to on a regular basis.

I'm inspired too! Does the Salvation Army really pay attention when they receive such "surprise" donations or do they just take the coins to the bank as is? Does anyone know?
