I've never heard or seen of this 1985 Mercury Head dime until I saw this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1935-Mercur...em2c5ee77fb6

The buyer is presenting it as real.

Why is the obverse so much more worn than the reverse? The reverse is like XF-45, but the obverse is maybe G-6? Best case scenario, it's a 1935 with a funny die break, maybe worth a few dollars premium over melt.

If you enlarge the pick the 3 is just tampered with...VERY obvious.

Amazing what a little heat and a tool can do.
It's ebay also, someone will buy it.

Damaged date, might be intentional but could also be incidental.

Regardless whether the date is modified (most likely) or a die break (only a curiosity), I'm convinced the reverse is a different coin. I've never seen a Mercury with that much of a wear difference between the two sides.

This coin appears obviously to be altered, and the seller should know that if he or she has any background in coin collecting. Also the comment regarding the wear difference from the obverse and reverse is very questionable.
