My wife bought me a 3 cent nickel today. We both never seen one before so she got for me. It was really cheap, but the thing that is confusing to me is that it is really brown like a penny. Is this the actual color? Looking at pictures on the internet, I though they were more of a nickel color.

Looks like some darker toning possibly due to environmental issues. Is there any signs of corrosion on the coin?

Not at all, no sign of corrosion. It has that solid brown color all around. I'm sure it's not a fake because there really isn't a reason to fake this coin. It doesn't have any real value. From a distance, you would think it's a Old Lincoln Cent.

Take a look at this one here on ebay. It looks exactly like mine.

Nickel composition coins can sometimes turn brown when subjected to environmental exposure and soil. It is hard to tell from your photos, they are a bit blurry and the color appears to be spotty, but the ebay coin is exactly what I am referring to.

I tried to take better pictures but it didn't capture the color properly. The ebay coin looks exactly like mine. Thank you.
