There are no US silver coins with a $10 denomination. It is also worth noting that "looked silver" is not the same thing as actual silver, alot of people still think business strike Ikes were silver too. Chances are that it is either some fantasy piece or a foreign coin. If Mexican, the cash value would be minimal since the Peso was revalued in the 1980s so the value would be based on silver content alone(if any). And of course, this is all speculation without pictures.

Thoretically, it could be a 10 Pesos from 1955-1960 that is 90% Silver with an 0.8359 oz. ASW.
Those have a melt value of ABOUT $33...getting that price is the hard part.

Many studies have been done showing that people can be absolutely sure they saw something that they never saw. Given that this is a 30+ year old memory, I'll bet part of what he remembers is wrong. My gut feeling is that it was a silver proof Eisenhower dollar, maybe a Bicentennial one. Being proof and bicentennial would give it the appearance of being commemorative.

if it is a proof or a bicentennial an he saying it is silver I offered him $30 for it. how good is that offer cause he seem's to want to take it cause he know's nothin about coins an I'm just starting so I figured $30 would be a good price.

If it is a silver bicentennial Ike it is worth a little under $10 at todays prices ($9.7969) since they are 40% silver, not 90% like the Morgan and Peace dollars. They came in a set with a dollar, a half dollar, and a quarter, all 40% silver. They made a lot of them, in both uncirculated and proof finishes, you can find them on ebay and other places for right around silver value.

Not after the recent price crash, sorry. Otherwise...I pick those up when I can, so long as the price is smoking hot.

Your coworker is either confused on the date or the coin, that scenario is not possible. If it is that specific GWB coin, it is essentially worthless(please, no political jokes here) as it is Liberian schlock composed of copper-nickel, not silver. There is really no point to further speculation until you can provide provide a photo of what he has in his possession, it is merely a guessing game now.
