Although I cannot tell you anything about them, we do have an 8 reale expert on the board who goes by the name swamperbob. His specialty is counterfeit Spanish-American coinage and he would be able to tell you if they are authentic or not.

BTW, welcome to the forum

rawypetit Hello and welcome to the forum. biokemist6 told me about this thread and thought I could help.

The two Portrait 8R coins appear to be cast counterfeits of the type made from White Metal. If you could post larger scans it would help a lot to be 100% sure.

I will briefly explain why I think they are counterfeit. I will do each coin:

1. 1795 MoTH This coin exhibits a lack of sharpness of detail that indicates it is most likely a cast copy made from a mold that was cast from an original. There is no detail in the King's hair yet the rim is nearly intact. The only other way that could have happened is if the coin spent a long time in a bezel that protected the rim while the central detail wore off. However, there appear to be pores in the surface consistant with a cast copy. Look at the large pores on the bust of the King. There are also surface lumps consistant with a cast mold - look at the dot below the N in HISPAN before and above the period.

2. 1782 Mo FF This coin is also cast it shows a degradation of detail with VERY high intact rims. Those rims are in fact too high to be real. These coins were originally produced without a colar die and there is simply no mechanism to produce what I see here. This coin also shows porosity and irregularoty of the fields seen on cast copies.

Both coins also appear to have some sort of "mounting" or sprue at the top center of the coin. I would suggest looking closely at the rim especially in this area to see of they are correct.

If you can provide the weight of each coin in grams, that will likely provide a final answer. The surface appearance seems to look like white metal and not silver - I would guess that the weight of each is below 24 grams. A measurement to the 1/10th gram is best.

I am not familiar with the third coin but based only on its appearance I would guess that it is likely a modern copy as well. These Italian coins have been copied several times and this coin has struck surfaces consistant with a modern coin - not one from before 1813.
