I know that the "rule of thumb" is that if the "doubling" is flat or shelf-like then it is probably MD but I thought I'd let the experts take a look. Thanks in advance for input.

If it is Machine Doubling, I would think that with that much of a spread in the mint mark that other devices would be doubled, too.

Could be D over D? When did they stop putting the mint mark on the dies by hand?

I'm learning here, too.

It looks like a 1964D-1MM 001 or 002. My guess. Coop and the other experts will tell you for sure.

MMs stopped being put on by hand in 1990.

Flat shelf like doubling that reduces the size of the mint mark. Machine Doubling. You can see more Machine Doubling on the are & T of QUARTER.
