Picked this up on ebay today. Not the best pictures in the world, but after fairly careful comparisons with a few examples, nothing jumps out at me as a definite alarm bell. Can anyone see anything I have missed? The seller accepts returns and I'm covered by ebay buyer protection so shouldn't be a problem if it turns out to be a fake - should be easier to tell in hand. Any opinions welcome! www.kingstoncoincompany.co.uk

5 gulden 1932, Danzig, Krause- km#157 -It should be 0.5000 silver but it has funny color( maybe its just bad picture ) -It should be 14.8200g weight, so if you have 0.01 scale that usually solves the problem...

I now have it in hand.
On the plus side, the design looks good - I've been over it very carefully and found no issues. The edge text is clear and well struck, the the general wear and knocks correspond with the overall condition (the slightly odd colour / appearance in the picture looks in hand to be from a fairly old clean).
Then there is the weight - 14.98 grams. According to krause - too high, according to a Polish coin catalogue I just looked at - listed weight is 15.00 grams, so 14.98 would be acceptable for a piece in this grade. Wouldn't be the first time Krause has made an error, and doubt it would be the last i'll notice.
So overall seems OK - if anyone else has any opinion, do share it!

I would still do a Specific Gravity, just to be on the safe side.

That's a good idea - my previous attempts have been fairly unsuccessful, but i'll give it another go.
I don't suppose you know of any people in London who would be good to get an opinion of? I'll be in Baldwins and DNW tomorrow anyway with a bit of extra time to kill around London

Is that a bronze toning I see?

On that 'bronze' like red toning on the 5 gulden, I too wondered about that. I took a super zoomed photo of it and looks like an old square of adhesive was put on the coin, as it follows a faint square shape. At first I feared it might be from a copper core, but a big dent on the ship on the other side is quite deep but shows up nothing underlying the surface.

The German catalogue I have does also say 15 grams. Danzig was also part of Germany. These coins are sought by collectors of both countries.

It has obviously had a rubbing and has light hairlines, but based on the pictures... I would bid. Krause reference info doesn't mean jack squat in many cases, especially for value. =)
