I purchased this coin a while ago from what I consider to be a good vendor. Still I would like it if some of you pros out there could give me some confirmation of its authenticity. I am not a collector of Greek coins nor do I know very much about Greek coinage. However, I asked some others that I know and so far the consensus is that your coin is perfectly fine and is a nice example. As I said, I know very little about Greek coinage, but I have eyed examples of this coin over the years. The owl is very intriguing and I would love to have one like yours. In other words, I'm jealous . Very nice coin! If I receive other feedback, I will let you know. JW

I also believe the coin is perfectly good and that the ID is correct. The eye of Athena is shown in a natural manner rather than the 'almond' shape used earlier. The flan is chunky as is common in the 4th century. I might guess it to be toward the latter half of that range but there is a lot of discussion on which styles belong in which period. These rarely have all the design on flan so I'd call yours better than average since it has Athena's nose and chin as well as the bulk of the owl. I suppose we could ask for a bit more of the E on the reverse but that would be getting picky. It is a nice coin.

Well, everyone says you have an authentic coin. One person said: "Very attractive, very authentic example. These are often struck very off center because of the tight flan, and only every so often it works in favor of both sides. Tell your friend it was a good find!"
So congrats on this excellent piece for your collection.

Looks like a nice honest coin, nice find. Quote: whats the value of this? Difficult to say yankee1227, if you want to take a chance on authenticity I would think you could prob get a poorish one on ebay for about £200-300. To get one with a nice owl like TJs from a trusted seller you could prob double that price, in some cases treble it and for a near perfect example prices can get very high very quick.

I paid $495.00 in Feb of last year. I think she is beauty too! One of two silver ancients that I treasure! I am very happy to hear she is authentic! I had no reason to doubt the coin...but I wanted to be sure. Thanks for all of your feedback!
