Am I missing something about this coin?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1797-C...em4cf9f7a317

I found this finished ebay auction that seems to have gone sky high!
Was the old bag the key to the auction? or was this the result of an all out bidding war?
I see no other Proclamation Pennies getting anywhere near this amount of money.

The bank bag is worth $10.00 - $15.00
And the cartwheel penny is worth $40.00 - $200.00
$660.00 is quite extreme, this is a case of newbie's going bid crazy.

I think the seller saying "CV $800" got what you would call "newbies" excited.

I cannot tell if that's a Cartwheel 1d or 2d? They look very similar, with size/weight being the difference.
In any case, there is nothing "rare" about that coin in that grade. AUD$ 660? I bought one with better rims in the US for $20.

Well that explains the hefty finishing bid then.
Must be the only "Genuine SILVER" Cartwheel ever minted

DVC: I wondered whether it might be a tuppence. Penny is 36mm; 2d is 41mm, and the only scale is the bag, so I couldn't be satisfied one way or the other.
In my experience, the 1797 series are readily available, but you have to pay a big premium for better grades.
This one is better than the one I paid $50 for.
I agree with Trout: I can see $200, but no more than that, for this coin.
