1868-S Half Eagle In An NGC Slab - Coin Community Forum

Jaobler Pillar of the Community United States 6426 Posts	Posted 09/27/2011 12:59 pm I had my eye on a slabbed 1863-S half eagle coin a few weeks ago but couldn't close the deal. I was able to pick up this coin at a fair price. It's not as scarce as the '63-S but still not a date you see with any frequency. How do you think NGC graded it? Report this Post to the Staff

Jaobler Pillar of the Community United States 6426 Posts	Posted 10/01/2011 09:59 am NGC called this VF-30. I agree with several posters that is a bit optimistic. I think VF-20 would be more appropriate and would not have been shocked to see it in a F-15 holder. On the plus side, I don't think the coin has been significantly cleaned and the color looks good.
