Now that the herd of silver bullion buyers got a reality check...from the recent silver crash which will probably turn into a full blown panic in a few months with en masse dumping of bullion at record low levels....

...I think rare Canadian coins might start getting some love again, in a few months. Time to stock up on the rare stuff before it becomes "popular" again

I was variety hunting at a local coin store the other day...while everyone was tripping over themselves buying or dumping silver bullion....I picked off a 1881H micro D in VF, a quad punched 9 1893, and about another 16 varieties (six 1893 repunched 9, two 1899 repunched 9s, two 1881H round the clock, two 1890 repunched Is, a 1891 die chip CENT, triple punched Ns in 1881H and 1882H)...for $8 each!...store owner couldn't GIVE them away...even gave me a 30% discount for buying that useless junk!

I wouldn't really say silver crashed. There is still a lot of room left for loss :)

Cool finds, Danlos, but it makes me wonder if these varieties are scarce or not. If you picked up this many from one store, it makes me suspicious.

How does this scenario suit you danlos? ... A error collector past away and left his undocumented error collection to his family who in turn went to the local coin shop and got whatever they could for what they believed was a junk coin collection. The coin shop owner purchased them for next to nothing and tossed all the error coins into a bulk coin bin for customers to pick through.

I can see Danlos drooling all over his wireless keyboard just thinking of all the varieties he could acquire for peanuts!

A couple of weeks ago I went into J&M. The kid at the counter asked me if I was buying or selling bullion. When I asked about some collectors coins his jaw just about dropped and he had to go ask Joe.

I know the feeling, seems to be all about bullion and RCM products at J&M lately, used to be my favorite coin shop for many years.
I don't even see the bargain bins for variety searching anymore.

To be fair, when they went into the vault, J&M had what I wanted at a reasonable price.

I placed an order from J&M august 27 for some Vickys. Still waiting. I was even at the Vancouver coin show in the meantime. I phoned and asked if they would have a table or someone there so I could get my order. "We don't do business that way". I guess I'm not an important customer? Lesson for business'...there are no unimportant customers. My visa was finally charged this last weekend so the coins are coming.

If you're not a "bullion" customer, you're not important. :)

I spoke to a guy a few months back who had made his millions on the stock market and had bought a lot of gold and silver. I told him it would crash but he just said this stuff just keeps going up!
