Hi. Around here ( San Antonio) coins from Canada are usually thrown in junk boxes or silver melt boxes. In other words, I can get a lot of that for cheap and dealers don't even look at the coins much. What are some key dates to look for the next time I'm looking through the melt boxes? Say one cent through one dollar coins.

Just a quick list would be : 5 cents : 1908,1915,1921, 1947 dot,1963 coinage axes, 1964 coinage axes and 1964 extra waterline, 1965 large/detached jewel. 10 cents : 1908,1915, 1948. 25 cents : 1906 small crown, 1921,1927, 1936 dot, 1947 dot, 1948, 1955 Double die, 1973 Large bust. 50 cents : to be honest if you find any fifty cents 1936 and below in a melt box it's a great deal. 1946 hoof through 6, 1947 maple leaf curved 7, 1948. 1 dollar : any 1947's, 1948, 1950 arn, 1951 arn,1952 arn, 1955 arn, 1957 1 water line and 1966 small beads.
I realize some of these are nickel so they most likely will not be in a melt box but it's always good to know!

For Canadian cents... some thoughts: Pre 1900's have value. Others: 1907H, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925, 1929(High 9), 1944, 1948 (A to small Denticle), 1949 (A to Denticle), 1953 (Shoulder fold), 1955 (No shoulder fold), 2006 (Magnetic). Good hunting.

So many interpretations of what are key dates. I would say any coin you don't already have.

Just a few others to look out for:
Nickels:
1951 high relief 1953 NSF NL 1953 SF FL
Half dollars:
1949 hoof over nine 1953 NSF LD 1954 and 55 - keep all, they are under valued
There are so many to look out for... too many varieties to list!

Wow- so many types and varieties to look out for. Maybe I should be collecting Canadian coins as apposed to just trying to fish something nice out of junk billion lots.
