I would post a picture but my camera is broken. But I have this coin which appears to be copper from 1863. On the dated side it has a picture of an Indian head and on the reverse all it says is NEW YORK with a sort of wreath action thing going around it. I just was wondering what it is if anyone knows. I couldn't find it online anywhere else so I don't know much info on it. Maybe some sort of civil war token?

yes, you have a Civil War Token based on your description. CWTs were privately created and they come in two flavors- store card(merchant advertisement) and patriotic. Federal coinage all but disappeared from circulation during the war so these tokens were created in their absence. They were the same size and composition of contemporary Indian Head cents, some are very common and only worth a few dollars while others are extremely rare with only a handful known to exist.

An ebay search for "1863 New York Civil War Token" turned up quite a few for sale, possibly like yours.

I'm guessing the coins were a pretty common method of advertising or even currency during the Civil War.
