I recently bought a bag of 500 Liberty nickels for just over $300 bucks. Not sure why, I never have good luck with these. Searching them today and they were like usual, common date, lots of circulation. Made three piles, mint marks (3 1912 D's so far), 1800s, and everything else. Is this an 1885? 5 looks kinda weird.... What does everyone think?

Looks good to me. The base of the 5 is higher than the other numbers. Great find!

Weird how the date has so much less wear than the rest of it. I'd grade it PO-0.

Great score. Now just sell the rest and recoup your investment. I did that 2 years ago, but the one I kept was a 1912-S, not an 1885.

Good idea chancellor.
The date actually comes out better in this photo because of the angle, but in hand the date seems more faint.

That'd bring $100+ on ebay easy. Nice score!

Yeah, it looks appropriate to me. It would struggle even getting an AG-3 grade though. Probably a FA-2. Still valuable and a great find.

Wow, that'd never happen to me. I'd give it a PO-1, though its still a high dollar coin.

I don't know about PO-1. Have you seen a PO-1, they have nothing left and usually have damage. A PO-1 is basically mutilated planchet. This coin has a clear date and a face. I think FA-2, but I'd go AG-3, before I dolled out a PO grade.
