I posted this coin months ago but never got a solid ID on the variety. It is an 1819 Large Cent graded EF-40 in an old PCI slab (green-label). They call it a "large date" on the slab but it seems pretty clear that it is an 1819/8 overdate. I'm leaning towards the N-1 variety for the overdate but I'm open to other opinions. Here are new photos of the obverse, reverse, and a close-up of the 9.

What say you Large Cent collectors?

(PS: the reddish color on the upper left reverse is from the light, not on the coin!).

Im no expert at all.

In the HA one is shown as 1819/8 Pittman N-1 High R.

Don't know what it means but I hope this helps.

Both you and PCI are correct. It is the N-1 1819/8 overdate, but it is also a large date as is N-2. (N-3 through 10 are small dates)

Thank you Condor and Moe for your comments. I have the Heritage Rasmussen Collection catalog which shows varieties N-1 through N-10 for the 1819 cent and the N-1 is the only overdate variety among these. The catalog text mentions there are many varieties for this year, including "overdates" (plural) so I assumed there was more than one possible ID for my coin. Apparently if you have an 1819/8 cent it has to be N-1.

The catalog confirms that only N-1 and N-2 are "large date" types so I see that PCI was right to that extent. However, to me the overdate is the primary feature of this coin and I'm surprised PCI failed to mention it! I like overdates and I appreciate that this one is quite prominent.
