I'm probably getting my hopes up on this one, but I think it might be Avitus. Hopefully the pictures are good enough for an ID. The little AE-4 is 11mm and 1.3 grams, no legends to go by and not much of the bust remains. The reverse is victory advancing left holding a wreath and carry a palm. there is an "S" in the left field and what could be an "RM" in the exergue.

Here are some better pictures.

You are right when you say there is not much to go on, but it looks like on the reverse legend all IIIII on the uper right quadrant. Is that right? Otherwise, I can't make out anything else. Sorry.

I think you may be correct. It appears to be close to the Avitus in the images on http://www.acsearch.info with an RV mintmark for Ravenna. Take a look and see what you think. Also, I am not the definitive source on this so hopefully someone else will chime in. If it is Avitas, it is very rare. A preliminary congratulation is in order.

OK, it being an AE4 with an 'S' in left field and the Rome mintmark (RM) I think it belongs to one of the following:

Johannes - DN JOHAN-NES PF AVG / VICTOR-IA AVGG - RIC X 1910

Not a good example.

Valentinian III - DN PLA VALENTINIANVS PF AVG / VICTOR-IA AVGG - RIC X 2118
Couldn't find a picture, sorry.

All things being considered I would go for this coin.

I see what you mean - I gues it all hinges on the 'RV' / 'RM'.

Even under the microscope I can't tell if it's RV or RM, just not enough of the letters remaining. At the level with the forehead on the obverse I can just make out the letters VS. No letters appear before the V.
