i have $100 to burn. i have taken pics of each page. let me know if you have any grade and date questions. my pictures are clear enough that I think grades/dates should be easy to tell. last time I upgraded, last week, I got a really nice T1 buffalo in AU for $22 and 1883 N/C V nickel for $12, so I don't need to up those... what I need help on is what you guys think I should upgrade for $100. should I upgrade ONE coin in awesome condition or a few in xf-AU? my goal fore this 7070 is detail driven and if possible for the price, AU-MS.. as you can see if there is a coin that I like, I will spend the money for it. so please keep the suggestions coming! SDcoinguy...you asked for suggestions...so here's mine...
I don't like the looks of your steel cent. It looks re-plated to me. I also don't like the satin proof Lincoln in that slot. I personally feel that the hole should be filled with a BU copper...and not a zinc.
Shoot me a pm with your mailing addy. I'll send you a copper and a steel that I think would look much better. If you don't like them, spend them...no worries.
I also think I can upgrade your 3-cent silver for a simple trade...and I can fill your clad-quarter nicely for only $.25.

I would get a Capped Bust half dollar, or the Trade dollar, those are always my favorite hunting for. If you're not looking to get a new coin, but just upgrade...I would upgrade one of the holed coins first. Everytime I see one it just draws my attention right to it, and away from everything else.

If you're looking just to upgrade I'm with akane17, I'd swap out one of the holed coins for a nice XF-AU.
I'd personally fill some holes though. Fill out all your modern's with high grades for near face value. After that you could fill as many holes as possible with mid-grade Seateds / Capped Busts; or just fill one hole with a nice AU.
Don't see your Large Cents row.... You could fill 2 or 3 of the old copper holes with nice grade Large Cents for $100.

My first thought was upgrading the plated steel as well. It's a cheap upgrade and looks much better. and yeah, a clad quarter is also an easy hole to fill, are you waiting on a certain one?
maybe an upgrade on the holed 3 cent nickel?

I would attack the 3 Cent "holed" pieces.

thanks for all the input so far guys!
the 43-d steel cent is not plated. I have had it for years. it's MS+64. bad lighting and angle did not do it justice. I agree with the proof cent, I have been lazy to put a ms+ copper in there.
agree again with the holed cents. most of those were trades and I could really use a nice AU 3CN or silver, not sure if I could attack them both in AU for $100.
the clad quarter slot has also been one that I have just been lazy on. I wanted an awesome MS example for face, @scotty11 hit me up with a pic of that .25 you got along with a copper 1cent.
as far as the old copper large cents, I only have the braided hair, 1854 large cent is all I got. I figured those would be all at least $100 in AU, so I was going to keep them out of the picture.
what about the shield nickles? I know I could do better, but would AU examples run me more than $100?

I'd work on eliminating the holes.
Not the holes in the album, the holes in the coins.

yepyep, holed coins do not belong in a 7070. they should definitely be the first to go.

You should be able to get a shield in AU for $100, but I too would first work on upgrading those 3c coins. Maybe you could find an AU 3CS for $100.

09 VDB, for $100 you can buy a REAL nice example.

Are you emphasizing quality, or quantity?
Personally, for where you are now, I would go for completion.

The first thing I would do is turn that barber half so it is not capsized and shim it so it stays put. Then I would work on filling empty holes. For me, even a low grade whatever looks better than looking at the next page through an empty hole.

i guess my approach to this is quality over quantity.
my coin dealer gave me a great example of this first hand when I wanted to spend $50 last week and upgrade my 7070. I went in with the approach of QUANTITY, completely overlooking QUALITY. when I told her, dealers wife who I might add knows A LOT about numismatics, what I wanted to accomplish, she told me that she would be making money off me twice. really? Yes, because if I were coming in to just fill hole say, get a AG capped bust, a couple of AG Copper large cents, and maybe a better Vickel in EF...when my goal is for at last XF-AU for the set, I would be coming in AGAIn to buy upgrades for the AG stuff I just bought.
SO with this in mind, instead of buying 5 coins in AG for $50 last week, I walked out with 2 NICE AU coins and one franklin for my frankie dansco.
so same tactics apply here. If I got $100, I want to either upgrade something to XF-AU ONCE and be done with it or fill some holes with XF-AU, not come back to them later and spend more money. make sense?
in my mind, id rather see an empty space than see poor examples of coins, just to have a space filled.
goal being: $100 how many XF-AU coins can I buy?
so far, if anyone has XF-AU TRIMES please post some pics and prices..

The first thing I thought when looking at that 1943 cent was that it had been replated. Are you certain that it isn't? They've been replating them since at least the 1960s.
Aside from that, I'm not a fan of holed coins. So if it was my collection those would be the first coins I'd look to replace.
