Folks,

Does a roll of Mercury typically carry a price premium over a roll of Roosevelt dimes?

What about Liberty quarters vs Washington quarters?

I'm waaaay too new at this...

I would think so. Same amount of silver, but with a cool old design instead of a boring everyday one.

I think they would also. But probably not much of a premium though.

Check APMEX prices on both to see what the dealers think/charge.

If you are thinking about the doomsday scenario, I know people who prefer Roosies over Mercs and Washington over SLQs because they are less worn and have more silver content when weighed in bulk due to less wear (yes, I have watched someone do this!).

Me, I prefer the reverse because of the designs but would not pay much of a premium due to the fluctuation in the silver market. My 2 cents.

assuming the same levels of wear, I would think mercs would have a premium over rosies, but the premium amount will depend on the overall wear level. Like for F grade coins, probably 10% or less, but if you are talking XF or AU, the mercs could be more like 20%.

Liberty quarters have a premium over Washington quarters as long as they have a date. Otherwise, not so much.

Lobby:

In my experience, Mercs carry a few cents premium per coin - when purchased as "junk" silver. When silver is $42 per ounce, and a silver Roosevelt dime goes for $3 apiece, the merc will generally go for about $3.10 per coin...

Of course physical silver, is much scarcer than paper silver. You are doing good by accumulating either - whichever, Mercs or Rosies - IMO you can't go wrong!

For street values I'm seeing approximately $20 per roll for average circulated ones.

Mercs and SLQs are older and much more attractive in general, so if we're trading junk silver I would much prefer them. Also if silver were to drop dramatically, and these coins once again have a legitimate numismatic premium, Roosies and Washington's (most dates) wouldn't be worth much at all, while the majority if SLQs and about half the Mercs would have some decent value left.

I'd suggest checking out the completed auction listings on ebay. That is a great way to see what people will pay. If you look at enough sales you may see a trend one way or the other. I do think Mercs will do better than Rosies in comparable grades though.
