with the assumption that circ silver is 0.715oz/$1 face.
The
Red Book shows pre 1965 dimes contain .07234 ounces ASW (Actual Silver Weight), quarters contain .18084 ounces ASW, and halves contain .36169 ounces ASW. Any combination of dimes quarters and half dollars totaling one dollar face value will contain .7233x ounces ASW which industry wide is rounded off to just .72 which is the number used in the computation of melt value of 90% silver coins.
Honest and ethical buyers of 90% silver pay 4 to 5% less than melt value, any more than that and they are getting greedy.
