i am new to pennies and I haven't seen anything about this before. can anyone shed some light as to why the "o" in oF is almost completely filled in?

Looks like a die chip. Dont throw it back just yet, can you post a pic of the whole coin Obv. and Rev. and a good close up of the date. There is a small date and large date for that year.

I'd personally keep it for the novelty, but it's not incredibly valuable.

Keep it. If you find a few error pennies and you don't want them you can always trade with somebody for something else.

You can check out sites that are just about error coins or Lincoln cents...there are a lot of people collecting them.

I'm guessing this is a small date. This was very common and the large date was created because of the problems of chipping with the small dates.
