Today my father gave me his pennys to look at, to my suprise I found a 1925! Best coin of the collection I would say, I'm quite new to collecting and got really excited :) Thoughts of Grade and/or value?

Are these pictures good enough to get a grade?

Looking at the pearls on the crown I would say good fine with a CV of about $350 to $400.

But then I saw those deep scratches/grooves on the obverse(Kings head side).

If those grooves are on the coin they would reduce it's value significantly

Did your Dad give you the coins, or was he just showing them to you?

Nancy I just started collecting like... 6 months ago or something, and now that he sees I'm interested he "gave" them to me.

Thanks for the feedback CoinMan, will work on that.

A very nice gift, shame about the grooves though. Never mind, it's still a nice coin and a 'key' for the pennies with a mintage of just 117,000.

That's a good question...were copper coins reclaimed during WWII? It was a strategic metal, due to its use in military ordnance.

DVCollector the big melt of pennies happened in the mid 1960's (decimalization). Fortunately the coin collecting craze had really gone into overdrive about 2 years earlier and most of the key date coins were saved (many thousands of full date sets were collected and the missing holes were usually 1914, 1925,1946 and of course 1930). Still means plenty were lost over 40 years of circulation (plus 40 years of wear means most are of VG to F grade).

I was wondering if the crack next to the "one" on the reverse and the crack through the "e" in gerogives on the obverse are die cracks?
