Stuff isn't selling good lately on E-Bay lately for me and was wondering if others are having the same trouble. I had 7 Proof half dollars 2000-2007 on there for 35 dollars free shipping and no bites. Thats over 50% less than the value. I'm just glad theres a coin show coming in my area next week.

I've been doing fairly decent lately, especially on this one. I bought it a few months ago for $55. http://www.ebay.com/itm/200656356599?ru=http://www.ebay.com:80/sch/i.html%3F_from=R40&_trksid=p4712.m570.l1313&_nkw=200656356599&_sacat=See-All-Categories&_fvi=1&_rdc=1

Im talking about the selling part the buying part is easy on there if you know what youre looking for. I mean I'm not doing to bad I made over 500 dollars in 2 weeks and over 800 dollars in gold and silver scraps in 3 weeks. But when it comes to certain things it seems pointless to even sell because people want them for to low of an amount.

Modern stuff without real numismatic or precious metal value has usually been harder to push.

Buyers are holding back because off economic uncertainty. It's not just coins. Other collectibles have been hit as well. People don't have the cash reserve to invest.

ebay is also swamped with garbage since they started handing out free listings. There's tons of people simply phishing and hoping someone will over-pay for junk so they just list crap over and over. This dilutes the legit items by a wide margin. My VC sales have dropped significantly since the free listing change was implemented.

I agree with Brad, you have to wade through piles of overpriced junk to find legitimate listings, (as a buyer) it's totally annoying

"Im talking about the selling part the buying part is easy on there if you know what youre looking for." Pretty sure those 2 things are directly related. You said you can buy stuff for the cheap on there, you don't think those sellers are questioning why their item didn't sell for more? The more people listing items, the cheaper the overall items will be. That's the reason I was able to a get a 99s kennedy pf70 for under $80. ebay has both equally helped and crushed the collectible market.

it might have to do with the fact that these are modern coins, and also that the economy is so bad. People like silver it seems more then modern coins also with silver dropping a bit here more people might be cashing in on buying that and thus leaving less money to spend on modern non silver coins
just a few thoughts

I am seeing the same thing with certain coin types. The one thing that is really putting butter on my bread is the demand for circulated Morgans. I've been buying the VF class common dates from a local coin dealer at melt and getting high 30's up to high 40's for them. When you crank in the 12% fees from eBay/PayPal, that still comes to around a 20% NET profit. I just have to force myself to pay back the initial purchase costs and not buy more coins for my personal collection. That's my story Your Honor (in case the wife reads this)..

Totally agree, it's the economy in general; buyers today have to feel they're getting a deal, or they just won't buy. That's the way it is in retail these days, even if people have some free cash, they're very uncertain about the economic outlook, and have to be convinced what they're buying is a good deal. Not sure how it is in your area, but I notice around here flea markets and yard sales are much more crowded these days...

Agree JackB, flea markets around here seem to be packed lately, but even still I see a lot of empty hands walking around. Just seems lately like everyone expects to get a Lexus for the price of a Hyundai.

Quote: flea markets and yard sales are much more crowded these days... I've definately noticed that around my area, my fiance and I go around town every other Saturday, flea markets/garage sales/auctions. The past month and a bit, there has been an overwhelming amount of people around. If we can't get there first thing in the morning, we probably won't bother anymore.

I have bought and sold coins on ebay. I don't know if it's the free listing thing or not, but I see almost nothing but sellers offering coins only as "buyitnow" for ridiculous prices. Almost none ever sell and it just clogs up the whole system. Maybe some are trying to recover hefty ebay fees and shipping and whatever else, but it's destroying the site. I still say there is no reason to sell any modern inexpensive coin slabbed or not on that site. The margins for profit force the seller to take a loss and/or the prospective buyer to get messed up. I'm tired of going on there and looking for a $5 hole filler and seeing a buyitnow for $18.99 + $4.50 shipping. really? I'm not sure if I've seen a fair deal under $20 on that site in ages. My own auctions are hit or miss. I've had some where I'm thinking "common, are you kidding me, its worth much more, I'm gonna take a hit here", but I've also had some where I think "stop bidding already you idiots, you guys are already 20% over retail"

I've scrapped some better date ag/g Barber halves for silver lately. After the ebay & paypal hits, I would just net a little over melt, so it's not worth the hassle.

The rest were all BIN.
