It is a Chinese cash coin from the Qing (Ch'ing) Dynasty.

The inscription reads dao guang tong bao which means it was cast during the years 1821-1850 of the reign of Emperor Xuan Zong.

The reverse side indicates that it was cast at the Board of Works mint.

A similar coin, but from a different mint, may be seen here.

Thanks Gary, are these coins worth anything now? Old coins fascinate me, who knows who has had this in their possession over the years!
