Hi guys

Hearing a lot about 2006 Canadian pennies, especially 2006P pennies....Is the "P" next to the date as in "2006P"...?

It is on the obverse of the coin right below the queens portrait.

Hi DvntMstr

The picture isn't that clear, is there a "P" under the Queen's head, instead of the Canadian mint logo...?

Yes, there is a distinct P directly under the Queens portrait where the logo is found on the others.

The image is of a 50 cent piece but the design and mintmark is the same.

Yah, that nasty "P" is probably the second worst thing that has ever happened to Canadian coins (the first being when they stopped minting them in "silver" Ag) ...

=> the "P" stands for multi-ply plated steel (they started making test coins in 1999 => 1999P)

... now pretty much all of our coins are made of steel (durable, but not a valuable metal) *sigh*

@stevex6: But durability should equate to value, since we believe that our coins have some value.

Really, hmmm? => yah, I don't think so => steel coins suck (that was the end of an era ... I'd start collecting paper-money before it turns into plastic ... uh-oh, too late!)

collect the old stuff ... let your grand-kids collect "our" stuff!
