Very old "Italian" - they're ancient Roman.

The top one is a very famous early Imperial design issued by the Emperor Nero. On the reverse is the Temple of Janus, the two-faced god. This temple had two large doors at either end, making it in effect a short covered walkway, with presumably the god's statue in the middle, one face facing each door. As a god with powers to affect the outcome of wars, Roman tradition held that the doors remain open unless the entire nation was at peace - something which rarely happened to the warlike Romans. The inscription on the reverse translates to "having brought peace everywhere, the Doors of Janus were closed". Similar designs were used on both the large brass sestertius and the smaller copper as; this one is an as, I believe. This example on Wildwinds is in better condition.

The others I believe are all later period Roman (200-300AD), except possibly the bottom one (not sure what that one is at all), but I can't see enough details to make out specific emperors or reverse types.

Thanks for the info! I am shocked, I really don't know much about coins. These were in a lot given to me by my great grandmother that contained some pieces from the late 1700's, so I asumed they were of similar age.

The one on the bottom (in the 2nd group of picture) appears to be this: http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/dioc...IC_0244.jpg, but the inscription seems to be different. any thoughts?
