I've since bought a 1913 Type 1 Buffalo nickel in MS65 and a 1902 Indian cent in MS64RB. I will post them when I get them photographed.

Update:

In addition to the two coins I listed in the previous post, I have some new additions:

1874 Seated Liberty dime With Arrows PCGS AU55 (blast white)
1964 Kennedy half dollar PCGS MS65 (rainbow mint set toning)
1937 Mercury dime PCGS MS66FB (rainbow album toning)

Plus I have in my possession an 1883 No Cents Liberty Head Nickel which is ungraded but which I am sending in. I believe it will be either MS64 or MS65, but we will see.

I have to send in the other coins for TrueViews which I will do sometime next month. I will post the pictures when I receive them.

when I started my 7070 album I pretty much did the same with the grades. I said I would not go below AU-50 (since AU coins look good beside BU coins)and they had to be problem free. I am now helping a buddy try to complete a slabbed version with the same criteria but when I started my album I purchased both of my $20 gold pieces for around 600 bucks in BU condition and now they are triple that

I have thought about that, and since I am doing the full type set of circulation strikes (133 coins) I am realistic and do NOT expect to ever finish the set. There are obviously many coins that are going to be very expensive, and most of these I will probably never be able to afford as I do not have a very large budget. But I think in a few years time I could reasonably expect to get around 70% of the coins, and that I think would be a big accomplishment.

FYI, here is a list of what is required to complete the set:

http://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/Set....aspx?c=3696

What is interesting is that there is only one person who has ever actually completed this set in the PCGS registry, and that is the somewhat famous "High Desert" collection. So even reaching the half way point on this set would put someone in a very select group. For now I will just continue to add to the set, and who knows what the future holds. Maybe my finances will be such that later in life I will have a higher budget and will be able to get some of the expensive rarities. Or maybe not. As long as I have fun doing it and my coins retain their value, then I will be happy.

Very nice set indeed! That is a killer "double dime"!

The complete PCGS set you mentioned previously is a MAJOR endeavor, why not try the Dansco 7070 Major U.S. Type Set?

Well, a couple of reasons:

1) I'm somewhat new to coin collecting and not good at grading coins myself. I have a hard time knowing if something is cleaned or has issues. However, I am good at selecting coins that have eye appeal. So I prefer to buy graded coins, and I prefer PCGS because they seem to be the most reputable grading company. So as long as I'm buying the coins graded and in PCGS holders, I figured I might as well get trueview pictures taken of them all and then I can post the set online and view it whenever I want without having to take my coins out of the safe deposit box.

2) Realistically, I don't ever expect to complete this set. But if you take a look at the set on the PCGS website, there is only one person who has completed this set, and that is the famous "High Desert" collection. So just getting half way done with this set would put me in some select company.

My set is currently ranked #40, but this new coin I just purchased should push me up to #37. Here is my set posted online:

http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/pub...s=96138&ac=1

I figured out that there are about a dozen coins that are more than $10k in decent grade. Then there are about 20 others that are more than $5k. So around 100 of the coins are less than $5kin decent grade, and about 70 of those are less than $1k. So I can certainly get past 50%. It will take a long time, but that's what keeps it interesting.

Eric...WOW...WOW....WOW. Your set is breathtaking~! You have a great eye for coins~! I just recently started a Dansco 7070 myself and am having a great time picking out my coins. This set is by far the most "fun" I have had. I also have trouble with "problem free" coins as I can't tell if they have been cleaned (most of the time) so I am sticking with slabbed coins for the most part. On the important ones anyway. I look forward to drooling over your future purchases~!! That is quite an undertaking! I commend you~!

Hi all, it's been a few years since I posted here. For a couple of years, due to budget issues, I did not purchase any new coins. But then in the past couple of years I started up again. I'm now up to 48 coins, although only 37 of them have been photographed, the other 11 are waiting to be sent into PCGS.

Here is an updated look at the set:

https://www.PCGS.com/setregistry/ty...allery/96138

I'll post again when the newest additions have been photographed and added to the album.
Rest in Peace
