I have another story. This one involves paper notes, not coins. I had gone to a dealer to get some warranty work done on my truck (that was the last Ford I ever owned). While waiting for the truck I decided to walk over to the nearby thrift store. On the way back to the dealer I looked onto the main street (Mercury Blvd) and I see bank notes rolling down the street, tumbling as the wind pushed them. You should have seen me dodging traffic as I was running between the cars on this 3 lane (each side) roadway. I was stuffing my pockets as fast as I could pick it up. When I was sure I got it all I ran as fast as I could back to the car dealer. All I could think of was a bank robber tossed it out of the car or a drug dealer lost it but I never did hear anything about it. When I got back to the car dealer I locked myself in the restroom so I could count my new stash. The total was only 108 dollars. There were some singles, fives, tens and around 3 twenty's. I wish it would have been all hundred's. I can't be too choosy. Free money is free money.

Best one I have is the silver Roosie I found at my spouse's family farm when we moved in for the summer this year. Was just sitting beneath grandpa's old dresser, so dirty the whole thing was black. I had to rinse it with water in order to determine anything about it, and when I did I got to see the date. 1963 or 64, I can't quite remember which at the moment and the bulk of my collection is still living at the farm, so I can't check up on it on the regular.
As far as banknotes go, I did find a $20 sitting on the ground when I got off my schoolbus back in 3rd grade while on a field trip. Snagged that and made sure to get something nice with it.

Been that long since you found a banknote? I found a $20 a few weeks ago, my fiend and I ate out with it, since a week earlier he found a $20 that we ate at the mall with. Me and my bro must be lucky :)

Broseph, Who said it's been that long since I found one? All I said was it was when I found a bunch. One time, I stopped at a red light and sitting on the divider island with a small patch of grass was a five dollar bill. I got out of my truck, picked up the bill, showed it to the car behind me and jumped back into my truck. You guys want a real coin story? About 6 years ago, my buddy got a job to clean out a house for a real estate company. He was paid to clean out the house. Once he signs the contract, all contents remaining in the house are his. He writes the contract to protect himself. The estate belonged to an elderly man who had no family and the valuable items with the house ended up going to lawyers and the state. My buddy invited me to the house so I could dig through the trash and see if I could find something of value. I sure found it! In the garage, buried behind a ton of stuff was a large sealed survival type locker. It was so heavy I could barley slide it away from the wall it was pushed up against. The box was so heavy it took two people to carry it. When I opened the box my eyes popped out of my head. It was full of cloth bank bags and each bag was filled with silver coins. You name it and it was there with the exception of silver dollars. Mercury dimes, Roosevelt dimes, Washington quarters, Franklin halves, Kennedy halves, Walking Liberty halves and roll and rolls of LWC's. We sold it all. I regret selling this stuff because the price of silver has tripled since we sold the coins. The coins were all worn and no key dates were found. It took days to go through the coins. I think we netted around 2500 dollars each. Today that would be around 7000 each. Oh well. |

I have found large notes in very interesting places: a $20 a few years back at the bottom of a pool(had to dry it in a microwave  ) and a $100 under a Chuck-E-Cheese change dispenser  I felt like I just won the lottery both times! |

2 things:
1: mds308 I was talking to SaintRidley, He said he found a 20 getting off the bus as a kid.
2.jlgaudlitz95 you found a $100?.... AT CHUCK E CHEESE? My parents would give us like $5 when we went there for someone's birthday. Who goes in with a $100? Definitely the weirdest place to find $100!

I also never mentioned whether or not that was my most recently found banknote. It's definitely the biggest one I ever found, and the circumstances were odd enough that I thought it worthy of inclusion.

i have a roofing company and you wouldnt believe the coins and other things people through on roofs but have nothing special.

I guess you didn't, that's true. And I haven't found anything over $20 that I can remember (and I would probably remember!)

I think the $100 bill must have fallen out of someone's wallet when they were feeding the machine for change. Today's finds: 1940 Wheat cent$2.00 loose change in a coin countig machine.=) |

This isn't really a strange place but I still wanted to share: At a local bar a few years back playing pool and a fight breaks out over by the bar top. I was young and ran over to "help" but it was quickly being moved outside and when the crowd was going to watch I noticed something under a flipped over chair....a $100 bill  Nothing special about the bill except it paid for a great night with some friends. |

A number of years ago I was helping a guy move an old piano. It was in the parlour of this old victorian house, and looked like it was the original upright for the house and all. As we pulled it away from the wall I glanced in the back and there sitting on the maple pull handle was an 1859 large cent penny. Probably some kid a hundred years ago stashed it there so his brother wouldn't find it and it had been sitting there ever since.
