although it has surface damage a normal loonie weighs in at 7 grams....No way this would cause the loss of 2 grams of metal

Bmoney you pretty much answered what I said..The ace. torch will melt it ..Not take away 2 grams of metal..The whole coin would be damaged... + you can clearly see where someone made scratches to see if the coin was coated this color.. I would think the owner of the store being and older gent thought someone tried to pass it as an old 50 cent maybe.. Who knows.. Oh and I tried the ace test and also a propane torch and heated a loonie to red hot and just before it turned melt white..Same color as usual and the weight is same ? 7 grams

Although the chances are slim, it could be one of the many that left the high school welding shop in 1998 turned silver from our torchplay.

it does match a 1989 barbados 5.6 grams copper nickel coin that the RCM produced. could be struck on this type of planchet.

Doubt you'll need to worry.
If you don't mind my asking, how much did the nickel cost?

well I dont think I will say it only because it was a sweet package deal... But I will say this.. more than 2 and less than 6 for both.... if the reserve is hit on both I will be up about 25% and happy enough..

Trying to sell the "aluminum" dollar?

You know it is not a wrong planchet.

If it is magnetic and is 2 grams lighter, then I think the thick plating layer has been removed. Look at the post by scissel near the bottom of this page:

The surface seems similar to the one that Zonad posted here:

https://goccf.com/t/76634&whichpage=10

Here is one with incomplete plating, we never did get the weight of the coin, but I suspect it would be lighter....

none of them have the same color. as for the first one who would bother to take the time and effort to try and strip away
the layer.It would be insane.
the second is cool
and the third I see loonies like that always color fade of the plating

I don't think this is a legitimate error at all . I highly doubt that it would certify as such from pcgs , anacs or ngc .
