This is fantasy, probably the most outrageously priced thing I have seen on ebay in recent times:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canada-Larg...281054842800?

I know that a PCGS MS-64 Red-Brown version of this same coin, recently sold for much less than half that asking price.

https://goccf.com/t/132326

Here is more fantasy:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canada-Larg...281054842842?

Having handled a 1859 brass cent myself, and putting in a solid year researching the 1859 brass cent with some of the biggest large cent variety gurus out there, I am left scratching my head with these asinine prices and declarations of populations. Where does this seller have the audacity to say that this is the same rarity as the 1859 brass? I know several collectors with at least 2 of these tripled 9 varieties and nearly all the dedicated large cent variety collectors that I know have at least one. They are out there, and with a bit of effort, can be found.

Perfect example, just look at tfred's recent posts here:

https://goccf.com/t/139342

If you are new to collecting large cent varieties, don't hesitate to take full advantage of the expertise right here on CCF. The last thing we would want you to do is throw away your money, on ebay auctions like this...

I'd say that the seller is only over charging by $14,500.00 for each coin I guess he figures its a big ocean with lots of fish in it? But at least he cleaned them all for you in advance

That's quite a follow up on his ebay listings calling people amateurs that have been collecting Queen Victoria large cent for 20+ years and also published a lot of the literature that he read (the seller)to know what varieties to collect to begin with. It just seems like yesterday that he himself was asking these same people questions on said varieties

Hrmm... well, if I am an "amateur" when it comes to Victorian varieties, who "tries to manipulate the variety market to their ends", even though I contradict that ideology by publishing my research, and, given the fact that my "knowledge is very limited" (yes, that is why I chose to be a research scientist in my career - because I know my limits), then maybe I'll demonstrate a better example from the series where pretty much every Canadian dealer and numismatist knows, that I am the expert.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canada-Doll...81054890048?

"Hello kettle, this is the pot calling..."

In PL-65 grades, I give these away (yes, for free) in order to promote the series. They are common as dirt, in fact 1976 is the easiest year to find a doubled date. Another example of fantasy, and don't waste your money on those outrageously priced nickel dollar varieties. Educate yourself, and you will find them easily enough on your own. If any CCF member wants an example, in that grade (or better), send me a PM and I'll send you one (until I run out, because I don't even save all the ones I find). Oh wait, that means I won't be "stashing these away in my safety deposit box"... Or, if collectors are new to this series, then enjoy the hunt by flipping through PL sets, you'll find one in about 1 in 12 sets or less. The price I set in the 67th Charlton variety section includes the cost of ICCS certification (as per Bill Cross's instructions).

ADDENDUM: The quotations above, and comments made by papeldog are from this particular seller's initial ebay "response" to my original post. However, the ebay "response" by this seller, was subsequently pulled and the item was relisted, again, without the insults directed at those, particularly me, in this coin forum. Yet, the beauty of the internet, is that even those with "limited knowledge" know that once something is posted online, it will always exist...

I would love to add this one to the mix! I have almost the exact coin in High EF condition but dont think it is anywhere close to the asking price. I keep watch of this one because if he gets even close to the price my ebay page will be updated pretty quickly!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/20076756808....m1438.l2649

On a side note - I recently purchased an AU 1859 coin with double "185" any feelings on how much a premium that would carry?

There's an American eBayer who does much the same with Morgan dollar varieties - vastly overinflated prices and overstated rarity, in a field where known populations change daily and every savvy collector knows that. I take solace in the fact that he rarely makes a sale at any sort of inflated price, and I hope you guys can say the same about this rather amusing ex-CCF member.

SPP, you have mail forthcoming.
