You're making good progress! But just remember the saying 'nothing is impossible, as long as you have the money'.

Very nice! Mine has been at 66 of 90 whatever for a few months now. This is my favorite set to work on...frustrating but love it.

Quote: Known problem with the 7099. All the holes are too big. Happened with the 7070 as well.

The hardest part of the set is really just understanding the varieties and tracking them down. I don't have a reference book to help me so I rely a lot of Internet images. If you are putting together a circulated set it is tough to find problem free or higher grades in all the varieties but its not impossible. My suggestion to folks who are interested in doing the Dansco set would be to not worry about a particular grade range (if you ever want to finish it) and to print out paper images of the 1793 chain and wreath, 1799 and 1804 because those four holes are budget busters and you would want to buy them slabbed anyway. Problem free draped bust and classic heads are where you will want to spend the budget so buying lower grade coronet and braided hair will even out the look of the final set over all types rather than having super nice braided hair and super bad draped bust, unless that won't bother you!

EFlargecents regarding your comment "There are also two erroneous holes for coins that don't exist and one of the 1834 types has a typo that causes confusion.", I am getting ready to buy a Dansco 7099, would you elaborate on the coins that don't exist and the typo on 1834? You will help save me a lot of confusion when I start.

I'm still working on mine. I have the two biggies out of the way (1793 Chain and 1799/8). It is challenging and fun. Large Cents are fun and most are within any collectors financial reach..who says you have to do an XF-AU set? Mine are all pretty low grade (G-F) with the exception of my 1805 (XF). Like another mentioned, I have several holes filled with Colonial types..they are the same size as Large Cents most the time.

Looking great! Nice set. Have you thought about going the EAC? http://www.eacs.org I just joined and so far looks like a great organization, their magazine Pennywise is amazing!

Quote: I am getting ready to buy a Dansco 7099, would you elaborate on the coins that don't exist and the typo on 1834? No problem! I'll break it down by page in the 7099. Page #3: The 1834 hole, the last hole on the page, is extra. There is no coin for this spot. Page #4: The first row of coins is 4 varieties of 1834. The second hole is labeled "Sm. 8 & stars med. ltrs." This coin doesn't exist. It should read "Lg. 8 & stars med. ltrs." Page #4: The last row of coins has 4 holes for 1839 (there is a 5th 1839 hole on Page #5). The first hole is simply, "1839". Unless you fill this spot with the very rare 1839/6, there is no coin for that hole. What really confounds me is the way Dansco decided on which varieties to include in the album. For a reason unknown to me, Dansco decided that 1829 was the starting point for including many types of varieties per year. However there are many "major" varieties for dates prior to that as well, but Dansco only has one per year up to that date. It doesn't really make much sense.

One more reason I use Whitman. I have a Large Cent, year only, Whitman Album. Don't need all the varieties, only the year. Still not an easy Album but without all the varieties, much easier.

I personally don't do varieties in Large Cents. Date set only.
