What a racket. You can call them different even without mint marks. I'm sorry, I usually keep my feelings about ASE's private but this is hilarious.

ssuperDdave.. I agree.... it has become an issue, in this case, of buying the label.
If you collect coke bottles from 1955, should you have one from every bottling plant in the country? I guess it's all in the eye of the buyer.

Like I said to each their own. They come from different mints, that is a fact. I'm glad I was able to amuse you. I will collect my way and you can collects yours and we will agree to disagree.

teach... it isn't for me, if it's for you, that's great... Like I said, it's in the eye of the buyer... meaning, we all have our particular interests. I wasn't trying to make fun of you.

Why are't mint marks put on these coins?

Quote: I consider them to be a different coin since they come from different mints. Some people think they are the same coin, but if they are minted in different mints I'm not sure how they can say that. Well, do you separate your 1974-1986 Lincoln Cents minted in West Point from those minted in Philadelphia? Both mints created them without mint marks. Quote: Why are't mint marks put on these coins? Because they are sold as bullion. If people want to collect them separately, that is fine. I do not collect ASE at all, so I really cannot judge the nuances.

And if you want to be serious you would also buy the Birthday Set (contains a proof), the Unc Dollar Set (contains the UNC, of course) and the Limited Edition silver set (contains the proof) to ensure you have all the packaging options. There could well be another coin & currency set as well in 2015...

I swore I wasn't going to get into this (W)/(S) thing again..but..I just think if someone puts an ASE in your hand and you cannot tell where it was minted then it is the same as every other ASE that would be put in your hand.... Just sayin' ...it's a label kinda thing

So to summarize, depending on how you collect, there will be either 3 or 4 distinct ASEs in 2015.
That is, unless the Mint announces another special set with RPs or EUs or something.
For me (and from this thread it sounds like for most of us), that number is 3. But by all means collect how and what you like.

Even though I don't collect Moderns of this type it's easy to understand the appeal - they're the most beautiful design we've ever minted and the strike qualities and finishes are outstanding. I get that, and apologize if I've implied otherwise.
But when the only known difference between two coins is the Mint saying, "We tell you so...."

Interestingly enough. I haven't yet gotten milk spots on my ASE's.
