It depends on your finance level. Well circulated Lincoln, uncirculated Jefferson, Roosevelt, are fairly low priced. Washington quarters are rarely offered as anything but a range of circulated to mint state. Kennedy halves used to be an easy set before there were many multiples of intentional "scarce" issues. Ikes can still be found in various mint state sets, as can SBA. The point is that the easy sets in easy grades are most frequently encountered. Unless you are buying them cheap, the chance of a profit on any of those is small. Most collectors all end up with the same list of coins still needed for any of those. The scarce or uncommon better dates in collectable grades are the only ones worth attempting to sell most of the time. There have been big buck complete sets of Morgan's or Peace sold, but that doesn't happen frequently and you have to have a thick wallet. Same for Walkers, Franklin's, and others. Getting a full set of Seated Liberty quarters, on the other hand, is unlikely to be offered. |

I purchased a complete set of Lincolns 1909-1940 about 12 years ago, and last year bought a complete set of Barber half dollars. I had been working on the Lincolns for about 30 years without completing the keys. I think I started the Barber halves about 6 years ago. I bought the Lincoln set of a individual, and stumbled upon the Barbers at a local coin show. Whatever floats your boat, to this day sitting down with a empty folder & filling holes is a whole lot of fun! |

Why wouldn't you if the price is right and you have the money?
You're gonna buy them individually if you don't buy the whole set. You can pop out the ugly ones, sell them and upgrade.

No, I never have. Probably because I wanted the sets to reflect my taste, eye appeal and condition. If I had bought someone else's set, I would always feel it wasn't my hard work that put it together......someone else did it.

Bought a full set of silver Roosie's. Replaced a cpl but by and large they were pretty nice.

I never have but I see them all the time at coin shows. Dealers love to put all their low grade something or other in an Album or Folder and try to sell as is. Great way to get rid of lots of low grade coins that might not sell.

I bought a full set of Roosevelt silver dimes and almost a full set of Washington silver quarters. I'm working on finding the clad ones in change/rolls.

I've compiled a few full or near full sets that I will probably start looking to sell in the not too distant future. Lincoln cents (1909 - 2008, circulated/uncirculated), Jefferson nickels (1938 - 2006, uncirculated), Roosevelt dimes (1946 - 2004, mostly uncirculated), etc. I am trying to finish off an uncirculated set of Washington quarters (1932 - 1998), with key dates all slabbed by PCGS, I just need about 7 more. I really would like to start focusing on classic gold issues, I have a few I inherited from my mother in law. |

My cents are all from circulation for the most part in dansco. Though I bought my dansco Mercury dime book for $73 or so with 40 dimes. The danscos are nice visually and not exactly cheap by themselves. If you can afford it you will regret not buying it can always upgrade the dimes throughout as you please. Keep the challenge and complete it yourself or buy and upgrade and you have time for other pursuits like a 7070? Edited by muddyknuckles

Never purchased an intact set, but I have purchased individual pieces from sets. I've seen multiple sets on dealer tables, look through them and found the odd key still in place. Rarely have I been told that only the set in its entirety was for sale.
