What is so "Limited Edition" about this set? Is it the cardboard display case? Can these coins be bought individually in another way? I keep hearing buy the coin, not the holder !

Quote: Can these coins be bought individually in another way? Correct. And buying the ASE and the annual silver proof set is ten dollars cheaper. LESP is $255. Silver proof set ($150) and ASE ($95) = $245.

Yup. Makes it even more expensive than duplicating the non-silver coins from by both annual sets to fill album holes.

When the 1995 West Point American Silver Eagles Proof Set came out the Die Hard ASE collector's had to have the Only way to receive that 1995 - W Proof, This is the Kind of ideas that Lead to collectibles, IF one can obtain them. Jbuck stated Quote: " In a proof set though? " Exactly, Minting the Out of the Norm in a Well established Series, Leads to Desirable, Very Unique, Must have examples..... Thinking outside that Box, Is where they Want to be....!!!!

Quote:Die Hard ASE collector's had to have the Only way to receive that 1995 - W Proof I'm not sure how many die hards there were in 1995, less than 10 years in to the series. Probably many people figured they'd get through the national silver stockpile they were trying to unload and then end the program. But 1995 I would say may have been a turning point. Remember it wasn't even a sell out, 45,000 I believe was the limit. (Man what if they discovered 15,000 in a government vault!). And remember, not everyone even opted for this set! Many 4 coin 1995 sets exist. The gold collectors, from what I've read, looked down on the silver eagles. Plus if they had prior years 4 coin gold eagle sets, they wanted them to stay the same, they didn't want the oddball set with the ASE. There are many that bought the 5 coin and sold the ASE to help pay for their gold. I want to say initially the 95W could be sold for about $500 out of the set back in 1995-96

Quote: Thinking outside that Box, Is where they Want to be I am all for that, but then you cannot call it a proof set. What about an enhanced proof ASE for the set? Not a reverse proof, but maybe one using two or three different types or shades of frosting in Lady Liberty and the eagle to add some contrast.

I've never seen the need for this set given its' price and duplication. I have subscriptions for the "S" Proof Silver Eagle and the silver proof set. That gets them all.

" Great Idea..... I am a Fan of Any Uncirculated Finished Coins, Especially The American Silver Eagles Program, I am seeking Maybe Another Enhanced Uncirculated like the 2013-W ASE.

They are worthy of having, Just Not priced for the collector Anymore, Just the Mint. The early sets are Still nice to just have and hold, They are nicely packaged....
