I'm really starting to wonder what the point of this thread is about? We can't hold either of these coins in our hand so how in the heck can we determine which one is real? Counting Reed Marks, come on, it's more important as to what they look like, but then again they are photos from a computer. In hand it is generaly quite easy to tell what is real and what isn't, but, on line it is a crapshoot and unless a coin has specific markers well what's the point! And even at that a photo can be deceiving. Just goes to show that people who buy coins online, beware. I'm very unimpressed with this thread, but, to each their own. Good luck and don't waste too much of your time!

..enough with the negative vibes...if you learned something from this thread then great! I'm sure it was educational to some. If it bored you to tears then why waste your time writing? There are several threads that don't interest me. I simply don't read them.
And some of us are very interested in thread counts, die variations, number of dies, ect, ect. To some of the minutae are a most fascinating subject.

Las Vegas Larry is at a coin show in Grapevine TX. He forgot his computer and will get back on the forum on Monday.

In all hobbies there are the minutiae type collectors and the who-cares-about-detail-give-me-eye-candy collectors. Neither is right, wrong, since it is all just about how we, as individual, have fun with our hobby. There's no need to be negative b/c we do not specifically like aspects of the hobby which we personally do not deem worth our own time.

Personally, I know very little about Peace dollars (as I know little about most coins right now) so it provoked my interest to go do a little research and try to figure out which one might be real. It's like a puzzle. Sure pictures are limiting but its still entertaining for a lot of people. Again, if you think its pointless, then why bother coming to post.

Coin A is the fake. The lettering on the reverse on a real 1921 Peace dollar is sharp and distinct as seen on Coin B. On the 1922 and later dollars the lettering on the back is softer and doesn't have sharp definition as seen on Coin A. Posted BEFORE I read the entire thread. Ed ANA LM-3175

Hey, Mr kendall, and Mr donrx...I was interested in this tthread! Maybe if you read my post again you would see where I lost interest. I've collected coins for almost a half century and I'll tell you, I've never and I mean never wasted a minute of my time counting Reed Marks. I've looked at their sequence and size so to speak as they are true tell signs but there are variences as far as their count and all the records are not documented. Also when you cannot hold a coin in hand it's a crapshoot at best as far as being able to determine authenticity. I may come across as harsh sometimetimes but I try to make my point heard for the education of others. Period!

I just got coin B back from Steve Caruso. I'm getting a few coins together and will send coin B and them in for grading soon. I'll mention the reed count and see what their response is. When shipped I'll let y'all know. When coin B returns, I'll post a new thread " Which is the real 1921 Peace dollar. REVEALED"

Interesting thread, I'm looking forward to see how this thread count issue plays out. I would have thought B was (is) real.

@jmkendall Quote: Earle42; I couldn't have said it better! I could have if I had taken the time to check the grammar I posted! I said: Quote: Neither is right, wrong, since it is all just about how we, as individual, have fun with our hobby. I should have said: Neither is right (eliminate comma) or (eliminate comma) wrong since it is all just about how we (eliminate comma) as individual s (eliminate comma) have fun with our hobby. You would never know I used to be a teacher - makes me afraid to proofread the article I need to get out the door!
