frodo Valued Member United States 352 Posts	Posted 05/13/2014 7:20 pm weighing a roll of 1982 LMC. determining zinc from copper the weighs should be 2.5 for zinc and 3.11 for copper I am getting fluctuations in numbers + or - is expected.. the ones that give me pause or 3.02, 3.03, 3.05, 3.07 the majority range from 2.50---2.56 and 3.08---3.15 what do you think the of the 3.02 ? zinc or copper? where do you think the range of fluctuation should end? frodo Valued Member United States 352 Posts	Posted 05/13/2014 9:40 pm thanks, kinda what I was thinking...i am going with anything 2.90 and under is zinc. anything 3.0 and over is copper so far zinc has been pretty much consistent 2.50--2.56 copper is all over the place, 3.0----3.15 thanks for the responee.. shadz Pillar of the Community 1325 Posts	Posted 05/14/2014 04:59 am stores that weigh a roll of coins scare me because a roll of zincs would be 125 grams and a roll of coppers would be 155.5 grams. that is 30 grams difference. also they take then behind a closed door to count/weigh them. um, no, you walked out of site so any missing you stole! 3.xx grams coppers are also probably due to age. a little bit wears off and rubs away each time a coin is handled, and when they rub together, and well 30 years of use could easily remove a tenth of a gram from a coin. i really need to weigh my 82s because I have a bucket of them and then a smaller bucket of 82D. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 05/14/2014 12:04 pm Mint Weight Tolerance for the cent is +/- .1 grams for zinc so a zinc can weigh between 2.4 and 2.6 grams and for copper +/- .13 grams so from 2.98 to 3.24 grams and still be within tolerance.
