Would you believe I contacted heritage auctions a year ago for help? I gave them 20 rare oil paintings for their art auction and they lost two. I had to go through a six-month court battle to recover the money. I would never give them another thing again. I don't care if they're the largest auction house in the world there are plenty of others who do just as good.

Ant, if you want to complete the series, the 1895 will set you back big time in high-end condition.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with HA, I've used them for coins and never had a problem with over $50k in coins sold. You may also want to contact Great Collections for info if you want to sell, Ian (the owner) is a class act.

If you don't want to sell, don't need the money, and have the means to finish the collection, go for it! Certainly would be a site to see.

I think completing the Morgan dollar series would be a fantastic tribute to him. I particularly like the morgan proofs. I bought 2 last night off ebay. I used the pcgs price app for iphone, saw what they were priced at and paid a few hundred dollars under for each. I think I did okay

So if we were talking about a type set for morgans, that would mean collection only 1 coin for every year instead of all the mint marks per year? Example 1880,1880s,1880o,1880cc?

For pricing, you're best off checking out HA.com (their completed coin auctions are a great price resource) and ebay sold listings.

That '87 looks great.

The type of set you're talking about is a date set, not a type set.
Rest in Peace

Be careful on ebay as well. There are Chinese fakes in fake PCGS slabs.

Oh boy. I've been bidding on Morgan dollars all evening on ebay. I just checked the sellers feedback ratings and they seem to be ok. Most have 100% with thousands of feedback.

Yes I was lucky with the 95. I brought it to the most well respected coin shop in the area a few days ago. He sent it to the grading company along with a handful of other morgans. I think one was 1897 o. The others he said are really common in low grades, but in high grades they are valuable. I dont remember the years. I only brought 10 with me and 5 went to the grader so I guess thats not bad

My grandpa left me a few hundred Morgan dollars. All but a few dozen were graded. There was 1 ms63, 1 ms62pl? And the rest were graded between ms64-67. A few have designations like proof or cam. Some say dmpl and VAM. I learned that dmpl means deep mirror prooflike. Still have no idea what VAM is. Slowly I will bring a dozen at a time to the shop to see what needs grading
